When installing an RPM package on the Marquis K825-S, segmentation fault or illegal instruction occurs. The problem is intermittent and does not occur on every package installation.
Beside data corruption, the SCSI bus might generate a lot of parity errors which eventually take down the server.
The Marquis K825-S uses the Adaptec 29320A-R 133mhz PCI-X controller. When running the controller at 133mhz bus speed (card installed in motherboard slot 1 or slot 2), data corruption will occur. To avoid the problem, operate the controller card at 100mhz bus speed (card installed in motherboard slot 3 or slot 4).
Note: This issue occurs on both AMD Opteron and Intel Xeon platforms that have 133mhz PCI-X bus(ses).
