The installer's media check says one or more CDs are bad

Problem:

When performing a media check, the installer reports FAIL for one or more of the CDs.

There is a bug in the kernel which causes the media check to always fail on some systems, even if the media are OK.

Solution:

To work around this bug, the installer should be booted with the following options: 

linux mediacheck ide=nodma

The media check should now give accurate results. If the media check still reports FAIL, then the media may indeed be bad. After performing the media check, reboot the system and run the installer normally.
