Symptom
After the operating system boots, the kernel panics with the following call trace:

Solution
The 3ware Software Suite includes the following core components:
- Controller firmware
- OS driver
- RAID management tools
There are two OS drivers, 3w-xxxx and 3w-9xxxx. 3w-xxxx is used on Escalade 7500, 7506 and 8500 controllers. 3w-9xxx is used on Escalade 9500S and 9500SX controllers. There are two RAID management tools, 3dmd and 3dm2. 3dm2 is the new version released for the Escalade 9500S and 9500SX controllers. Even though it supports the older 3ware models, do not use it. For best compatibility, use 3dmd on Escalade 7500, 7506 and 8500 controllers.
3dmd and 3dm2 are Web-based RAID management tools. In addition, 3ware also provides a command line RAID management tool, CLI. This is bundled in the 3dmd or 3dm2 package.
The 3ware Escalade RAID controllers require matching driver revision and controller firmware revision. When using an older driver version together with a newer firmware version, the system might crash. To solve the problem, update the 3ware driver. Note: When installing newer 3ware driver, it might be necessary to update the 3dm2 or 3dmd and CLI tools. The latest 3ware OS driver/controller firmware/ RAID management tools can be downloaded here:

To verify driver consistency, refer to the tables below. Note it is ok to use newer driver over the recommended version. However, never use a driver that is older than the recommended version.
