CentOS 6 may hang during installation to Sovereign 4897 with large number of disks.

Problem:

CentOS 6 may hang during installation to Sovereign 4897 with large number of disks.

Details:

When installing to a Sovereign 4897 with large numbers of disks, the CentOS 6 installer may hang while enumerating the storage devices.

Solution:

Pass the following option to the kernel when starting the installer:

rdblacklist=mpt2sas

This will prevent the LSI device driver from loading so the attached disks will not be visible to the installer. Install the operating system to the 2.5" drive(s) attached to the motherboard controller. After the system boots remove the following file to re-enable the LSI controller:

/etc/modprobe.d/anaconda.conf
