3ware system reports "Battery capacity test is overdue"
Problem:
A system with a 3Ware RAID controller reports
"Battery capacity test is overdue"
Solution:
The battery backup unit (BBU) on 3Ware controllers needs to be periodically tested to insure it is still working properly. To begin the battery capacity test from the command line:
# tw_cli /cx/bbu test
cx should be replaced with the controller number as output by the following command:
# tw_cli info
Performing the battery capacity test will temporarily disable the write cache, which will negatively effect performance. The test can take a number of hours to complete. When the test is finished, the write cache will be enabled again.
