RHEL 4/ Centos 4.x crashes during installation on Woodcrest platforms
Affected models:
- Lancelot 1865, 1688, 2865, 4864, 4865
- Sovereign 3855, 3875, 4875, 8875
Details:
The NMI Watchdog code in the RHEL kernel is incompatible with the newer Intel Xeon processors.
Solution
Pass the kernel parameter nmi_watchdog=0 during installation and the subsequent reboot. After the system is booted add the parameter to the kernel command line in /etc/grub.conf
