ASL Announces 2nd Generation Intel® Dual Xeon™ 1U Beowulf Cluster.

Aug 16th, 2002--Newark, California.

ASL Inc., a leading provider of award-winning high performance Linux™ systems, today announced the Lancelot C1850 and C1855 series. These are scalable Intel dual Xeon 1U rack servers designed for the next generation of high performance Beowulf clusters. Optimized for density, the Lancelot C185X series support up to 84 processors in a standard 42U cabinet.

With the introduction of the Lancelot C185X series, ASL continues to follow its company tradition by offering state of the art Linux Beowulf clusters at an attractive price. The Lancelot C185X series support Intel dual Xeon processors to 2.4ghz and higher. With its high-speed 400mhz front side bus and 512K L2 cache, the Lancelot C185X series deliver extreme floating-point bandwidth needed for physic and scientific computation. Equipped with 3.2GB/s memory and 2.1GB/s I/O bandwidth, the Lancelot C185X series provide unparalleled performance for Beowulf clusters.

The Lancelot C185X series support interconnection using standard Fast/Gigabit Ethernet, or low latency, high-speed Myrinet controllers. Bundled with Scyld Beowulf Clustering Operating System or Portland Group Inc Cluster Development Kit, a powerful turnkey cluster solution can be built quickly.

"The goal was to offer a breakthrough Beowulf cluster in performance and reliability," said ASL VP of Product Development, Tony Sheridan. "By concentrating on high-speed Intel Xeon processors and advanced Plumas (E7500) server chipset, we were able to deliver a powerful and scalable high-performance supercomputing platform. Using .13micron technology, the Lancelot C185X series operate at a cooler temperature, consumes less power and scale at a greater processor frequency than any competing solutions."

To facilitate large scale deployment of Beowulf cluster, the Lancelot C185X series support PXE netboot. A diskless configuration can also be utilized to reduce the overall cost of the cluster. Through the use of serial console redirection, system administrators can monitor, manage and maintain the nodes without the need for the costly KVM switches. Supporting lm-sensor, Lancelot C185X series monitor system health status, including processors temperature and fan speeds in real time to ensure reliability. Furthermore, a cold-swap power supply is provided in some models to allow quick node replacement.

ASL's comprehensive 3-year parts and 1-year labor warranty cover the Lancelot C185X.
