ASL Inc., a leading provider of award-winning high performance Linux systems, today announced the availability of the Lancelot C1851 Beowulf cluster node using the next generation Bproc-based Beowulf clustering software.
Starting at under $1500, the Lancelot C1851 delivers a powerful clustering solution based on the Intel dual Xeon architecture. Using a 533mhz Front Side Bus, a dual channel memory delivering 4.2GB/s bandwidth and dual port Gigabit Ethernet, the Lancelot C1851 provides superior I/O throughput for cluster applications. To enable the high speed, low latency network throughput required in a large scaled cluster, the Lancelot C1851 includes a 64-bit/133mhz PCI-X expansion slot.
For raw computing power, the Lancelot C1851 includes two Intel Xeon processors running up to 3.06ghz and beyond. Applications that are bandwidth sensitive will benefit from the built-in 512K L2 cache. In Q4, a larger 1MB L2 cache will be available.
To enable turnkey, powerful and ready to run Beowulf clusters, ASL is now shipping the next generation Bproc-based Beowulf clustering software based on Los Alamos National Lab's Clustermatic. Traditionally, clustering software and the operating system have to be installed across all the computing nodes making installation and cluster management tedious and difficult for system administrators. To simplify the process, commercial Beowulf clustering software can be deployed at a significant cost of licensing per processor. Today, ASL has enabled a powerful BProc-based (Beowulf Distributed Process Space) clustering solution at no extra cost. Using Bproc, the clustering software and the operating system only have to be installed on the master node, greatly simplifying the installation process and administration of the cluster. For parallel application development, the software includes the MPICH and LAM libraries, P4 optimized C/C++/Fortran compilers and source level debugger. In addition, a comprehensive suite of applications including the Bproc job scheduler, cluster monitoring system and node booting infrastructure are integrated into one seamless package.
"By delivering powerful, low cost turnkey Beowulf cluster solutions for supercomputing, ASL once again continues its tradition of making technology affordable to the masses" said Jeff Nguyen, President and CEO of ASL Inc. From the biomedical field to physics research, affordable Beowulf clusters are becoming an indispensable tool for researchers and scientists to solve complex problems that were once unreachable.
The Lancelot C1851 is covered under the ASL comprehensive three-year warranty with world-class support at no cost.
