Marquis C725 does not restart after reboot command
Problem:
If a reboot is issued, the system goes down, the power light, ethernet light, and fans stay on but the screen is off and the keyboard is unresponsive (no lights on there and they do not turn on).
The power button then needs to be held down to completely power off the system.
Afterward, the system can be started up normally.
Solution:
This is caused by a bug in older versions of the motherboard firmware.
The problem is resolved using the following firmware update:
ftp://ftp.aslab.com/pub/bios/asus/dsgcdw1008.img
To update your firmware, write this image to a floppy disk using dd:
# dd if=dsgcdw1008.img of=/dev/fd0
Boot the system using the floppy. When the DOS prompt appears, run the following script:
flash.bat
