Linux
ASL 2.4.19-1 kernel
or higher is required to support the onboard Ultra ATA/100 controllers. Using
any other kernel will result in very poor disk transfer rate.
USB
USB 2.0 requires the runtime module ehci-hcd found in ASL 2.4.19-1 kernel
or greater. This driver replaces usb-uhci, which is the default USB 1.1 driver.
ASL recommends using the USB 2.0 driver for optimal performance. As shown below,
USB 2.0 provides superior performance over USB 1.1 interface:
Hdparm
Iomega ZIP 750 with 750MB cartridge = 6.08MB/s (USB 2.0 mode)
Iomega ZIP 750 with 750MB cartridge = 977.57KB/s (USB 1.1 mode)
In addition, external CDRW drives featuring high speed USB 2.0 will only burn
successfully using ehci-hcd driver.
