SuSE 9.0 Professional
In SuSE 9.0 Professional, DMA must be enabled manually in order to burn data on the built-in DVD-ROM/CDRW recorder. To enable DMA, run yast2, select Hardware, select IDE DMA Mode and choose DMA ON. Note this step is only required if the operating system has been reinstalled.

Do not use the SuSE DVD boot media to install the operating system on hard drive running off any 3Ware Escalade RAID controller if the machine has 4GB of physical memory or greater. This will result in data corruption. Rather, use the ASL DVD installation kit.

For optimal performance and stability, always use the ASL customized 2.4.21-215 kernel.

To reinstall the operating system, use the ASL DVD installation kit. Unlike the original DVD set provided by SuSE, the ASL DVD installation kit contains the following enhancements:

  • The kit includes the latest SuSE kernel (2.4.21-215 as of this writing) with ASL updated device drivers for better hardware support.
  • The kit provides support for all four Silicon Image 3114A SATA ports.
  • The kit includes built-in device driver for the 3Ware Escalade 9500S series. This eliminates the need for device driver disk.

    Red Hat Enterprise Linux
To reinstall the operating system, use the ASL DVD installation kit. Unlike the original CD set provided by Red Hat, the ASL DVD installation kit contains many enhancements including:

  • Quicker and simpler installation because only one media is required and special driver disk is not needed.
  • The kit includes all package updates from RHEL release 2. This provides a more secured and updated system after the initial installation.
  • The kit includes the latest RHEL kernel (2.4.21-15.EL as of this writing) with ASL updated device drivers for Adaptec Ultra 320/m SCSI controllers and Intel Fast/Gigabit Ethernet controllers.

    Processor
Opteron Model 250 processors require BIOS revision 1.89. To obtain the BIOS update, please send request to techsupport@aslab.com.
