Linux
To ensure platform stability, always use ASL kernel. Do not use the base kernel that comes with Red Hat 7.3, 8.0 or 9.0. These kernels have out of dated Adaptec Ultra 320/m SCSI driver that is unreliable and unstable under heavy I/O load.
Note: The embedded Marvell SATA controller on the Lancelot 1153-T requires ASL 2.4.25-1 kernel or higher. Any earlier ASL kernel or non ASL kernel does not contain the appropriate device driver needed to access the hard drives.
To reinstall the operating system, use the ASL customized CD set. These CD are the Red Hat original CD updated with ASL latest kernel. If the ASL customized CD set is not available, download the ASL driver disk. These driver disks can be used with the standard Red Hat CD to install the operating system.
Note: The ASL device driver disk does not contain the Marvell SATA device driver. To reinstall Linux directly to the hard drive(s) connecting off the Marvell SATA ports, it is necessary to use the ASL customized CD set (for Red Hat 7.3, 8.0, 9.0 and Fedora Core 1 only).
USB
USB 2.0 requires the runtime module ehci-hcd found in ASL 2.4.19-1 kernel
or greater. This driver replaces usb-uhci, which is the default USB 1.1 driver.
ASL recommends using the USB 2.0 driver for optimal performance. As shown below,
USB 2.0 provides superior performance over USB 1.1 interface:
Hdparm
Iomega ZIP 750 with 750MB cartridge = 6.08MB/s (USB 2.0 mode)
Iomega ZIP 750 with 750MB cartridge = 977.57KB/s (USB 1.1 mode)
In addition, external CDRW drives featuring high speed USB 2.0 will only burn
successfully using ehci-hcd driver.
